Press Release – Ghent, 17 November 2025
The Province of Antwerp has chosen Docbyte Vault, the long-term digital preservation solution from Belgian technology company Docbyte, to safeguard its digital heritage and administrative records. With this decision, the Province takes an important step toward a future-proof and legally compliant approach to digital archiving.
According to Deputy Jan De Haes, the openness and completeness of the solution were decisive in the selection:
“Our aim is not only to preserve our own digital information for the long term and in a legally sound manner, but also to offer a framework through which our cities and municipalities can join with ease. Docbyte Vault provides exactly that combination of transparency, trustworthiness, and forward-looking design.”

Evidence-Grade, Long-Term Archiving
Docbyte Vault is a certified solution for the long-term archiving of electronic documents with full evidentiary value. The technology meets the requirements of the European eIDAS regulation and the Belgian Digital Act and supports organisations in preserving all documents subject to legal retention requirements, an obligation that will become increasingly important in the coming years.
Through this collaboration, the Province of Antwerp enables its cities and municipalities to use this solution under the same conditions. The Province will also provide support services to guide local administrations in their transition to a long-term digital archive.
“At a time when digital information can be altered so easily, it is essential for public authorities to preserve their digital heritage in a trustworthy and verifiable way,” says Frederik Rosseel, CEO of Docbyte. “We are proud that the Province of Antwerp has chosen a solution that not only meets the highest standards but also helps local administrations prepare for the future.”
The signing of the cooperation agreement by Deputy Jan De Haes and Frederik Rosseel marks the start of a long and productive partnership.

About the Province of Antwerp
The Province of Antwerp represents 1.9 million residents, 67 municipalities, and 2,855 km² of potential – with a world port to the west, the nature-rich Kempen to the east, and everything in between.
As a regional authority, the Province is large enough to make an impact and small enough to make a real difference. Often behind the scenes, it acts as a driving force for initiatives that go beyond municipal boundaries.
With a workforce of 1,700 employees at the Province of Antwerp and 1,150 at Provincial Education Antwerp, the Province works every day for local administrations and for its residents in areas such as mobility, the economy, agriculture, heritage, nature, water management, and education. From cycling highways to climate projects and recreational domains, you encounter its work more often than you might think.
